The The Fantastic Four precon from the Marvel Super Heroes crossover is a unique 4-color deck (WURG – non-black) that revolves around casting noncreature spells and copying triggered abilities. While it offers great value straight out of the box, it suffers from typical factory precon flaws: too many slow „flavor-first“ cards without immediate impact and a clunky mana base.

If you want to push this deck from a casual precon table (Power Level 5–6) up to Power Level 7, where it can reliably hold its own against optimized EDH decks, you only need to swap out 10 weak links for high-synergy staples on a budget.

1. Strategy: Why Choose Mister Fantastic as Your Commander?

The precon includes all four team members, but the best choice for a consistent Power Level 7 build is Mister Fantastic.

  • Why he works: Mister Fantastic draws a card at the beginning of combat if you’ve cast a noncreature spell that turn. More importantly, his activated ability for  copies any triggered ability you control twice.

  • The Upgrade Goal: Add low-cost noncreature spells with Rebound, Flashback, or Cantrip mechanics, paired with permanents that have game-ending triggers for Mister Fantastic to multiply.

2. Top 10 Cuts to Make Immediately

These cards are either too slow, do little on their own, or fail to support our core engine:

  1. Negative Zone Portal – Clunky artifact to cast and activate; offers minimal tempo.

  2. Path of Discovery – Low value in a deck focused primarily on noncreature spells.

  3. Dragon Man, Reformed Robot – High mana cost for a body that lacks impactful tactical utility.

  4. Silver Surfer, Galactus’s Herald – Situational card that requires too much setup.

  5. Galactus, Devourer of Worlds – Oversized finisher (8+ mana) that frequently rots in your hand.

  6. Willie Lumpkin, Postman – Fun flavor card, but pure bulk from a Power Level 7 standpoint.

  7. Cut a Deal – Gives away free cards to opponents; we want asymmetrical card advantage.

  8. Collective Effort – Slow sorcery speed interaction better replaced by instant-speed protection or ramp.

  9. Deep Analysis – 4 mana for 2 cards at sorcery speed is outdated for optimized play.

  10. The Fantasticar – High crew requirement vehicle that doesn’t advance our win conditions.

3. Top 10 Inclusions for Power Level 7

Add these high-synergy staples to double your triggers and accelerate your noncreature game plan:

Mana Acceleration

  • Bloom Tender – Taps for 4 mana in a 4-color deck with your commander on the field.

  • Faeburrow Elder – A secondary Bloom Tender with Vigilance that rapidly speeds up your plays.

Synergy Engines (Triggers to Copy)

  • Jeskai Ascendancy – Buffs your board, untaps your creatures (including your commander for repeated copying), and loots on every noncreature spell.

  • Storm-Kiln Artist – Creates Treasure tokens whenever you cast or copy a spell, generating explosive mana loops with Mister Fantastic.

  • Harmonic Prodigy – Doubles abilities for Wizards and Shamans (Mister Fantastic is a Human Wizard!), creating a massive chain reaction.

Card Advantage & Rebound

  • Ephemerate – Protects your commander for and triggers all „cast a noncreature spell“ abilities a second time for free on your next turn via Rebound.

  • Expressive Iteration – Premier 2-mana selection that keeps your hand stocked and maintains tempo.

  • Stangg, Echo Warrior – His combat trigger creates a token copy with all aura/equipment copies. Copying this trigger with Mister Fantastic creates an unstoppable board state.

Win Conditions

  • Approach of the Second Sun – By copying your draw triggers, you can dig through 7 cards in 1–2 turns to win the game instantly.

  • Stalking Vengeance – Turns board wipes or sacrificing token copies into direct lethality against your opponents.

4. Game Plan & Pilot Guide

  1. Early Game (Turns 1–3): Deploy your mana fixing (Bloom Tender, Faeburrow Elder, Arcane Signet) and establish your 4-color base.

  2. Mid Game (Turns 4–5): Cast Mister Fantastic alongside key enchantments like Jeskai Ascendancy. Keep Ephemerate ready to defend against removal.

  3. Late Game (Turns 6+): Activate Mister Fantastic for  in response to your strongest combat or draw triggers (e.g., Stangg, Echo Warrior) to overwhelm the table with resources.
