Doubling card draw whenever you discard resources turns self-discard spells, wheels, and loot effects into unprecedented card-advantage engines. On Moxfield’s high-power and cEDH Izzet charts, Rielle, the Everwise from Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths stands out as a premier commander that leverages the graveyard to fuel instant win conditions while growing her own power output exponentially.
As a 0/3 Human Wizard legend costing just three mana (), Rielle gains +1/+0 for every instant and sorcery in your graveyard. More importantly, the first time you discard one or more cards each turn, Rielle draws that many cards. Paired with explosive discard outlets like Lion’s Eye Diamond, cheap looters like Faithless Looting, and mass wheels like Wheel of Fortune, Rielle empties and refills your hand in seconds to dig straight into winning combo lines.
Here is the strategic operational blueprint of Moxfield’s premier Rielle list, detailing how to abuse discard mechanics, fuel graveyard recast lines, and dominate the table.
1. Core Mechanics & Strategic Phases
Succeeding with Rielle requires fast Izzet mana acceleration, efficient self-discard spells, wheel effects, and instant-speed countermagic protection.
-
Early Game (Turns 1–2): Ramp with fast mana rocks like Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, and Arcane Signet while setting up cheap cantrips or instant interactions.
-
Mid Game (Turns 3–4): Cast Rielle and immediately resolve self-discard spells like Frantic Search or Careful Study to draw bonus cards and stock your graveyard with instants and sorceries.
-
Late Game (Turns 4+): Execute mass wheels with Wheel of Fortune or Windfall to draw massive new hands, or pair Lion’s Eye Diamond with Underworld Breach to storm off and win via Thassa’s Oracle or Grapeshot.
2. Moxfield Highlights: Discard Engines & Wheel Synergy
The highest-rated community lists on Moxfield optimize Rielle by combining free-discard mana engines with explosive wheel cards and instant-speed control.
Lion’s Eye Diamond / Underworld Breach
The ultimate Izzet storm combo line. Discarding your hand to LED with Rielle on the field yields 3 mana while drawing cards equal to your hand size, generating fuel and mana to recast spells endlessly through Underworld Breach.
Wheel of Fortune / Windfall
Massive draw multipliers. Discarding a full hand to a wheel effect triggers Rielle’s ability first, allowing you to draw replacement cards before the wheel spell resolves to draw another full hand.
Frantic Search / Faithless Looting
Net-positive loot spells. Discarding cards to draw with Rielle turns net-neutral loot spells into direct card advantage that untaps lands or sets up grave targets.
Fierce Guardianship / Deflecting Swat
Free Izzet commander protection suite. Protects Rielle from board removal while leaving your mana open for instant-speed discard plays on opponents‘ turns.
