Revealing and free-casting cards from the top of your library whenever you play your first spell each turn turns routine instant-speed control into an unstoppable tempo machine. On Moxfield’s highest-rated Simic and cEDH control charts, Rashmi, Eternities Crafter from Kaladesh stands as an iconic commander that maximizes card advantage and free-cast value on every player’s turn.
As a 2/3 Elf Druid legend costing four mana (), Rashmi triggers on your first spell each turn. If the top card of your library has a lower converted mana cost than the cast spell, you may cast it for free; otherwise, it goes straight to your hand. By leveraging high-mana discount spells like Dig Through Time or free countermagic like Force of Will, Rashmi constantly flips free spells and builds unbeatable card advantage across a full turn cycle.
Here is the strategic operational blueprint of Moxfield’s premier Rashmi list, detailing how to stack top-deck triggers, abuse instant-speed control, and secure victory.
1. Core Mechanics & Strategic Phases
Succeeding with Rashmi requires fast Simic ramp, top-deck manipulation, instant-speed interactions, and high-mana value discount spells.
-
Early Game (Turns 1–2): Ramp quickly using Birds of Paradise, Fyndhorn Elves, and fast mana rocks like Sol Ring to establish an early Rashmi deploy.
-
Mid Game (Turns 3–4): Cast Rashmi and hold up instant-speed interaction. Play countermagic or cantrips on opponents‘ turns to trigger free top-deck casts and fill your hand.
-
Late Game (Turns 4+): Manipulate top decks with Sensei’s Divining Top or Sylvan Library. Cast discounted spells like Submerge or Dig Through Time to flip massive free spells and close out the game with endless control.
2. Moxfield Highlights: Top-Deck Control & Free Spells
The highest-rated community lists on Moxfield optimize Rashmi by pairing high-mana instant spells with top-deck manipulation and Simic combo finishers.
Sensei’s Divining Top / Brainstorm
Top-deck manipulation anchors. Ensures the card sitting on top of your library always qualifies for Rashmi’s free-cast trigger when you resolve an instant spell.
Dig Through Time / Submerge
High-mana cost discount spells. Delve or alternate costs allow you to cast these spells for minimal mana, while their high official mana values guarantee free top-deck casts off Rashmi.
Seedborn Muse / Wilderness Reclamation
Untap engines. Untaps all your lands on every opponent’s untap step, granting you full mana reserves to cast spells and trigger Rashmi four times per turn rotation.
Fierce Guardianship / Force of Will
Zero-cost countermagic suite. Protects Rashmi while triggering her value engine without tapping down your mana resources.
