Triggering free spells straight off the top of your library whenever massive apex predators enter the battlefield forms the most explosive Dinosaur strategy in Commander. On Moxfield’s highest-rated tribal and Naya charts, Pantlaza, Sun-Favored from The Lost Caverns of Ixalan Commander stands as the undisputed king of Dinosaur decks, converting raw toughness into free card advantage and board presence.
As a 4/4 Dinosaur Companion legend costing five mana (), Pantlaza triggers whenever itself or another Dinosaur enters under your control, allowing you to Discover X, where X is that creature’s toughness (once per turn). By combining Pantlaza with massive high-toughness Dinosaurs like Gishath, Sun’s Avatar and end-step blink engines like Teleportation Circle or Ephemerate, this deck triggers Discover X on every single turn to cascade through your deck for free spells.
Here is the strategic operational blueprint of Moxfield’s premier Pantlaza list, detailing how to maximize Discover triggers, abuse blink synergies, and crush opponents with a prehistoric swarm.
1. Core Mechanics & Strategic Phases
Succeeding with Pantlaza requires fast Naya mana acceleration, high-toughness Dinosaurs, end-step blink enablers, and tribal synergy payoffs.
-
Early Game (Turns 1–3): Ramp aggressively with Nature’s Lore, Three Visits, and tribal discount dorks like Otepec Huntmaster or Kinjalli’s Caller.
-
Mid Game (Turns 4–5): Cast Pantlaza to instantly trigger Discover 4 on entry. Deploy follow-up leviathans like Etali, Primal Conqueror or Apex Altisaur to chain massive free Discover spells.
-
Late Game (Turns 5+): Protect your Apex board using Heroic Intervention or Rhythm of the Wild. Use blink triggers on opponents‘ turns to continually trigger Discover X and overwhelm the table.
2. Moxfield Highlights: Discover Triggers & Prehistoric Titans
The highest-rated community lists on Moxfield optimize Pantlaza by pairing massive Naya Dinosaurs with repeatable blink engines and tribal lords.
Gishath, Sun’s Avatar / Etali, Primal Conqueror
Apex Dinosaur payoffs. Gishath flips multiple Dinosaurs directly onto the battlefield from combat damage, while Etali steals spells from every player’s library—both triggering Pantlaza’s Discover X for high X values.
Teleportation Circle / Ephemerate
Blink engines. Blinking Pantlaza or a high-toughness Dinosaur on your end step or opponents‘ turns resets the „once each turn“ clause, triggering Discover X again for free.
Monster Manual / Sneak Attack
Cheating threats into play. Circumvents heavy mana costs to drop giant Dinosaurs at instant speed, triggering huge Discover triggers for minimal mana investment.
Rhythm of the Wild / Urza’s Incubator
Tribal accelerators. Grants haste and uncounterable status to your Dinosaurs while dramatically slashing their mana costs.
