Converting every discarded card into an instant-speed cast directly from your graveyard transforms routine loot actions into game-winning flash plays. On Moxfield’s competitive and high-power Dimir charts, Oskar, Rubbish Reclaimer from Streets of New Capenna stands as an elite commander that completely ignores timing restrictions and turns discard mechanics into pure card advantage.
As a 3/3 Human Citizen legend costing five mana (), which easily reduces to as low as thanks to card types in your graveyard, Oskar lets you cast any card you discard for its normal costs at instant speed. By pairing Oskar with repeatable discard outlets like Anje’s Ravager, wheel effects like Windfall, or instant-speed looters like Merfolk Looter, this deck plays continuously during opponents‘ turns and bypasses traditional sorcery-speed limitations.
Here is the strategic operational blueprint of Moxfield’s premier Oskar list, detailing how to abuse discard triggers, bypass timing rules, and lock down the table.
1. Core Mechanics & Strategic Phases
Succeeding with Oskar requires filling your graveyard with diverse card types to reduce commander cost, deploying cheap discard engines, and casting discarded win conditions at instant speed.
-
Early Game (Turns 1–2): Drop early looters like Looter il-Kor or Thoughtcourier while milling diverse card types to cast Oskar for just two mana ().
-
Mid Game (Turns 3–4): Cast Oskar. Use discard effects on opponents‘ turns to flash in sorceries, creatures, or countermagic straight from your graveyard as you discard them.
-
Late Game (Turns 4+): Resolve a massive wheel like Windfall or leverage Necropotence discard triggers to cast your entire combo package at end-of-turn instant speed.
2. Moxfield Highlights: Discard Engines & Instant Value
The highest-rated community lists on Moxfield optimize Oskar by combining instant-speed loot triggers with high-impact Dimir control and combo lines.
Necropotence
The ultimate instant-speed fuel engine. Excess cards discarded at your end step due to hand size triggers Oskar, allowing you to flash in all discarded cards before they get exiled.
Windfall / Whispering Madness
Massive discard triggers. Discarding a full hand with Oskar out allows you to cast any of the discarded cards at instant speed while drawing a fresh new hand.
Tortured Existence / Key to the City
Repeatable discard outlets. Grants unblockability or creature recursion while instantly activating Oskar’s cast-from-graveyard ability whenever you need it.
Fierce Guardianship / Force of Will
Free countermagic suite. Protects Oskar and your instant-speed win conditions without committing additional mana.
