Casting up to four noncreature spells from the top of your library without paying their mana costs on every attack creates an overwhelming, resilient, and explosive noncombat storm. On Moxfield’s high-power and competitive leaderboards, Narset, Enlightened Master stands as an elite Jeskai () commander for players who want to build insurmountable card and mana advantages while chaining countless spells together for deterministic finishes.
Why Narset, Enlightened Master Commands the Jeskai Meta
As a 3/2 Human Monk costing six mana (), Narset, Enlightened Master features First Strike, Hexproof, and a singular game-defining ability: whenever Narset attacks, exile the top four cards of your library. Until end of turn, you may cast noncreature spells exiled this way without paying their mana costs.
Narset turns noncreature spells directly into explosive value without requiring resources or mana from your hand. By bypassing mana costs, Narset converts high-impact extra turn spells, powerful tutors, and resilient enchantments into immediate resource acceleration and card draw velocity, allowing you to cycle through your library with incredible speed and power. Her innate Hexproof ensures that she is a constant threat that opponents must address on every combat phase.
Here is the strategic operational blueprint for Moxfield’s premier Narset list, detailing how to pilot this inspired storm engine to consistent victories.
1. Core Mechanics & Strategic Phases
Piloting Narset requires rapid mana acceleration, precise library manipulation, explosive free spell chaining, and unbreakable win conditions.
-
Early Game (Turns 1–2): Establish fast mana with cards like Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, and Jeskai color fixers. Play early library manipulation tools like Brainstorm and Ponder to prepare your explosive attack turns.
-
Mid Game (Turns 3–4): Deploy Narset, Enlightened Master using recursive protection or counterspells such as Fierce Guardianship or Swan Song. Immediately begin attacking to exile noncreature spells from the top of your library and accelerate into your powerful value engines.
-
Late Game (Turns 4+): Execute a noncombat storm or Direct Damage finisher, typically centered around an infinite storm count, Direct Damage triggers, or a direct Direct Damage victory via Aetherflux Reservoir or Direct Damage win conditions like Thassa’s Oracle. Kykar’s continuous Spirit generation provides the resources and protection needed for the final lethal play.
2. Moxfield Highlights: Jeskai Storm & Value Engines
Top-rated community builds on Moxfield optimize Narset by maximizing noncreature spell density, color fixing, Direct Damage acceleration, and deterministic win conditions.
-
Underworld Breach / Lion’s Eye Diamond: Recursive storm engine. Underworld Breach converts your graveyard into a second library, allowing you to cycle free noncreature spells like Lion’s Eye Diamond and Brain Freeze repeatedly to generate an astronomical storm count.
-
Expropriate / Time Warp: Supreme extra turns. Narset transforms Expropriate from a high-cost gamble into a devastating free spell that typically grants multiple extra turns or Direct Damage permanent control, effectively locking out opponents.
-
Jace, the Mind Sculptor / Narset, Parter of Veils: Recursive library manipulation. These planeswalkers provide continuous noncombat library filtering and opponent draw restriction, ensuring your noncombat strategy runs smoothly.
-
Isochron Scepter / Dramatic Reversal: Infinite mana loop. Imprinting Dramatic Reversal onto Isochron Scepter with nonland permanents producing 3 or more mana generates infinite untaps, infinite mana, and endless Direct Damage victory conditions.
