Granting universal prowess to your entire creature army while repeatedly stealing and copying instant or sorcery spells from any graveyard creates unmatched tempo pressure. On Moxfield’s high-power and competitive charts, few combat-centric spell-slingers dominate as aggressively as Narset, Enlightened Exile.
As a Jeskai () legend costing four mana (), Narset gives all creatures you control Prowess. Furthermore, whenever Narset attacks, you exile target noncreature, nonland card from any graveyard with mana value less than Narset’s power and cast a copy of it without paying its mana cost. Because Narset triggers her own prowess continuously, her attack triggers scale rapidly, allowing you to cast massive extra turn spells, draw spells, or board wipes straight out of opposing graveyards for free.
Here is the strategic operational blueprint of Moxfield’s premier Narset list, detailing how to turn cheap cantrips into lethal prowess swings and graveyard-fueled value loops.
1. Core Mechanics & Strategic Phases
Succeeding with Narset requires a high-density noncreature spell base, token-generating utility units, extra combat enablers, and efficient Jeskai protection.
-
Early Game (Turns 1–2): Deploy cheap cantrip sources and token engines like Third Path Iconoclast or Monastery Mentor while fixing your mana base with fast fetches and duals.
-
Mid Game (Turns 3–4): Cast Narset, Enlightened Exile and immediately trigger prowess across your board by chaining cheap instants like Brainstorm or Swords to Plowshares.
-
Late Game (Turns 5+): Attack with Narset to target high-impact spells in graveyards, such as extra-combat or extra-turn spells like Time Warp, swinging in with an oversized, prowess-buffed creature board to close out the match.
2. Moxfield Highlights: Exile’s Masterwork
The highest-rated community lists on Moxfield optimize Narset by pairing her graveyard-copy attack triggers with token swarm generators, prowess multipliers, and free stack protection.
Third Path Iconoclast / Monastery Mentor
Essential token engines. Every noncreature spell you cast generates additional tokens. Under Narset’s static aura, every token gains Prowess, meaning a simple flurry of three cheap cantrips turns a modest board of 1/1 tokens into an army of 4/4 lethal attackers.
Seize the Day / Time Warp
The ultimate attack-trigger multipliers. Seize the Day untaps Narset and grants an extra combat phase. When copied out of the graveyard by Narset’s attack trigger, it creates continuous combat steps that rapidly scale her power and trigger prowess repeatedly.
Jeska’s Will / Brain Freeze
High-velocity storm and impulse generators. Jeska’s Will generates explosive mana and card advantage, while Brain Freeze fills graveyards with high-value instant and sorcery targets for Narset to copy during combat.
Deflecting Swat / Fierce Guardianship
Crucial commander protection. Narset must attack to generate her maximum value; having free interaction available ensures she survives incoming combat tricks, targeted removal, or instant-speed board wipes.
