Copying instant spells on every single player’s turn while growing into an infinitely massive threat turns Temur Spellslinger into a terrifying instant-speed powerhouse. On Moxfield’s high-power and competitive charts, Kalamax, the Stormsire stands as the premier Temur () commander for copying spells and executing instant-speed win loops.
As a 4/4 Elemental Dinosaur legend costing four mana (), Kalamax features a game-ending conditional ability: whenever you cast your first instant spell each turn, if Kalamax is tapped, you copy that spell and may choose new targets. Furthermore, whenever you copy an instant spell, Kalamax gets a +1/+1 counter. By tapping Kalamax via combat or tap outlets like Springleaf Drum, you copy free counter-magic, ramp, and draw spells across every turn cycle. Pairing Kalamax with fork effects like Reverberate or Expansion // Explosion creates an infinite copy loop that gives Kalamax infinite power instantly.
Here is the strategic operational blueprint of Moxfield’s premier Kalamax list, detailing how to leverage instant-speed copying, tap utilities, and fork loops for deterministic victories.
1. Core Mechanics & Strategic Phases
Succeeding with Kalamax requires fast Temur mana fixing, non-combat tapping outlets, high-value instant spells, and instant fork combo pieces.
-
Early Game (Turns 1–2): Fix your 3-color mana base using fetch lands, ramp spells like Nature’s Lore, and deploy safe tap engines like Springleaf Drum.
-
Mid Game (Turns 3–4): Cast Kalamax (), tap him safely, and start casting instant cantrips and ramp spells like Crop Rotation or Growth Spiral to get double value on everyone’s turn.
-
Late Game (Turns 5+): Execute infinite +1/+1 counter loops with Reverberate or Fork during combat, or copy extra turn spells like Time Warp and storm finishers like Chandra’s Ignition.
2. Moxfield Highlights: Temur Copy & Infinite Loop Engines
The highest-rated community lists on Moxfield optimize Kalamax by maximizing instant-speed interactions and running compact fork loops that instantly win the game.
Reverberate / Expansion // Explosion / Fork
Infinite +1/+1 counter loop pieces. Casting Reverberate with a tapped Kalamax copies Reverberate. The copy targets the original Reverberate, creating an endless loop of copy triggers that pumps Kalamax to infinite power at instant speed.
Springleaf Drum / Chord of Calling
Safe tapping engines. Springleaf Drum taps Kalamax for mana without needing to send him into risky combat, guaranteeing your first instant is copied safely.
Chandra’s Ignition / Fling
Infinite power payoffs. Flinging an infinitely large Kalamax at an opponent’s face or casting Chandra’s Ignition wipes out the entire table instantly.
Deflecting Swat / Fierce Guardianship
Free Temur protection suite. Free instant interaction keeps Kalamax safe from removal while generating copy value for zero mana.
