Transforming counters into virtual card advantage turns Falco Spara, Pactweaver from Streets of New Capenna into one of the most versatile Bant commanders in Magic: The Gathering.
As a 3/3 Flying, Trample Bird Demon (), Falco Spara enters the battlefield with a protective shield counter. His core ability lets you inspect the top card of your library at any time and cast spells directly off the top by removing a counter from any permanent you control as an additional cost. Paired with self-replenishing counter sources, top-deck manipulation like Sensei’s Divining Top, and creature untap engines, Falco Spara generates massive card draw and infinite combo loops without depleting your hand.
Here is the strategic operational blueprint of Moxfield’s premier Falco Spara list, detailing how to stock counters, manipulate the top of your deck, and execute fast win conditions.
1. Core Mechanics & Strategic Phases
Succeeding with Falco Spara requires fast counter engines, top-deck filters, low-cost Bant mana dorks, and tight counterspell protection.
-
Early Game (Turns 1–2): Ramp into Bant colors using mana dorks like Noble Hierarch and Birds of Paradise. Deploy counter generators such as Luminarch Aspirant or Kami of Whispered Hopes.
-
Mid Game (Turns 3–4): Cast Falco Spara. Use top-deck manipulation tools like Sensei’s Divining Top or Sylvan Library to play continuous spells directly from your library, removing +1/+1 or shield counters as fuel.
-
Late Game (Turns 4+): Execute infinite cast and mana loops using Devoted Druid or Good-Fortune Unicorn + Kitchen Finks. Draw your entire deck and resolve Thassa’s Oracle or a massive Walking Ballista.
2. Moxfield Highlights: Counter Engines & Top-Deck Manipulators
The highest-rated community lists on Moxfield optimize Falco Spara by blending repeatable counter engines with top-deck filtering to cast multiple spells per turn straight from the library.
Sensei’s Divining Top / Sylvan Library
The top-deck control suite. Sensei’s Divining Top allows you to reorder the top 3 cards of your library at instant speed, ensuring you always reveal high-impact spells for Falco Spara to cast.
Devoted Druid / Good-Fortune Unicorn
Infinite counter engines. Devoted Druid puts -1/-1 counters on itself to untap, providing endless counters for Falco Spara to remove. Good-Fortune Unicorn puts +1/+1 counters on creatures as they enter, fueling continuous top-deck casts.
Walking Ballista / Thassa’s Oracle
Primary game finishers. Walking Ballista converts accumulated +1/+1 counters directly into lethal damage, while Thassa’s Oracle secures immediate victory once Falco Spara clears your top-deck.
