Exiling cards from every opponent’s library upon the entry of any Vampire while gaining the ability to play those cards with mana of any color makes for an unpredictable, explosive theft engine. On Moxfield’s high-power and cEDH charts, few Grixis () commanders offer as much instant-speed flexibility and combo redundancy as Evelyn, the Covetous.
As a 2/5 Vampire Rogue legend featuring Flash and costing five mana (), Evelyn triggers whenever she or another Vampire enters the battlefield under your control, forcing each player to exile the top card of their library. You can play cards exiled with collection counters this way for as long as they remain exiled, spending mana of any type to cast them. When paired with instant-speed Blink loops or infinite mana combos like Worldgorger Dragon + Animate Dead, Evelyn exiles every opponent’s deck simultaneously, locking out the entire table instantly.
Here is the strategic operational blueprint of Moxfield’s premier Evelyn list, detailing how to convert Vampire ETB triggers and instant-speed loops into complete library theft.
1. Core Mechanics & Strategic Phases
Succeeding with Evelyn requires fast Grixis mana acceleration, low-cost Vampires, instant-speed interaction, and compact reanimation combos.
-
Early Game (Turns 1–2): Ramp quickly using fast artifacts like Sol Ring, Mox Opal, and Dark Ritual, or deploy cheap utility Vampires like Vampire Of the Dire Moon and Viscera Seer.
-
Mid Game (Turns 3–4): Flash in Evelyn on an opponent’s end step to exile opponent libraries, theft key interaction, or setup graveyard tutors with Entomb.
-
Late Game (Turns 5+): Execute the Worldgorger Dragon reanimation loop or assemble Thassa’s Oracle + Demonic Consultation, exiling all opposing decks or winning on the spot with free counter-magic protection.
2. Moxfield Highlights: Maestros Theft Operations
The highest-rated community lists on Moxfield optimize Evelyn by combining low-cost Vampire ETB triggers with instant-speed combo lines, Grixis tutors, and theft payoffs.
Worldgorger Dragon + Animate Dead / Dance of the Dead
The instant-speed win engine. Reanimating Worldgorger Dragon exiles all your permanents (including Evelyn). When Dragon leaves, your lands and Evelyn return untapped, triggering Evelyn to exile cards from all libraries. Repeating this loop generates infinite mana and exiles every opponent’s library entirely.
Cordial Vampire / Bloodthirster
Low-cost Vampire triggers. Playing hyper-efficient Vampires yields four exiled cards per cast (one from each player), turning every creature spell into mass card draw and resource theft.
Thassa’s Oracle + Demonic Consultation / Tainted Pact
Secondary Grixis win condition. Having access to Grixis colors guarantees the fastest, most resilient alternate win line in the format as a backup if graveyard hate is present.
Fierce Guardianship / Deflecting Swat
Free Grixis protection. Flashing in Evelyn for five mana unlocks free interaction spells instantly, safeguarding your combo attempt on opponent turns.
