Absorbing opponent spell casts into immediate power buffs and card advantage turns every stack battle into an offensive landslide. On Moxfield’s high-power and Spellslinger charts, few commanders capture the balance of interaction and spell scaling as dynamically as Celes, Rune Knight.
Whenever an instant or sorcery is cast or countered on the stack, Celes gains +1/+1 counters and triggers card selection or mana generation. By pairing Celes with spell multipliers like Veyran, Voice of Duality and draw engines like Archmage Emeritus, this Jeskai () deck converts cheap interaction into continuous card advantage and commander damage victories.
Here is the strategic operational blueprint of Moxfield’s premier Celes list, detailing how to turn instant-speed reactivity into an unstoppable Spellslinger machine.
1. Core Mechanics & Strategic Phases
Succeeding with Celes requires low-cost instant interaction, spell-based draw engines, token generators, and trigger duplicators across Jeskai colors.
-
Early Game (Turns 1–2): Fix your mana base using Jeskai fetches and fast rocks like Arcane Signet and Sol Ring, deploying Celes early on Turn 2 or 3.
-
Mid Game (Turns 3–4): Cast low-cost cantrips and counter-spells like Brainstorm, Ponder, and An Offer You Can’t Refuse to stack +1/+1 counters on Celes while drawing through your library.
-
Late Game (Turns 5+): Multiplier engines like Veyran, Voice of Duality or Kykar, Wind’s Fury fuel explosive spell-chain turns, finishing opponents via commander damage or massive storm finishes with Aetherflux Reservoir.
2. Moxfield Highlights: Runic Blade & Stack Dominance
The highest-rated community lists on Moxfield optimize Celes by structuring the deck around hyper-efficient instant interaction, spell payoffs, and stack protection.
Archmage Emeritus / Whirlwind of Thought
The continuous draw engines. Drawing a card for every instant and sorcery cast ensures your hand stays packed with interaction and cantrips to maintain stack dominance.
Veyran, Voice of Duality / Harmonic Prodigy
Trigger multipliers. Veyran doubles every spell-cast trigger from Celes and your other permanents, causing Celes to grow twice as fast and generate double the value on every spell.
Kykar, Wind’s Fury / Young Pyromancer
Board presence and mana engines. Generating Spirit or Elemental tokens whenever you cast noncreature spells provides sacrifice mana for explosive turns while building a wide chump-blocking army.
Fierce Guardianship / Deflecting Swat
Free Jeskai protection. Keeping Celes on the battlefield for zero mana ensures that opponents cannot disrupt your Runic engine during critical turns.
