Expanding your maximum hand size to eleven while cheating game-ending spells directly onto the stack for free turns 5-Color Friends Forever into a terrifying combo engine. On Moxfield’s high-power and competitive charts, pairing Cecily, Haunted Mage with Othelm, Sigardian Outcast unlocks full 5-Color () access with explosive free-cast payoffs.
As a 3/5 Human Wizard legend costing four mana (), Cecily passively sets your maximum hand size to eleven. Whenever she attacks, you draw a card—and if you hold eleven or more cards in hand, you may cast a spell from your hand without paying its mana cost. Partnered with Othelm () for green/white access and graveyard recursion, this deck leverages massive hand-refill spells like Peer into the Abyss and Ad Nauseam to cross the eleven-card threshold and cast game-winning bombs like Omniscience for zero mana.
Here is the strategic operational blueprint of Moxfield’s premier Cecily & Othelm list, detailing how to turn hand-size expansion into free spells and instant victories.
1. Core Mechanics & Strategic Phases
Succeeding with Cecily & Othelm requires fast 5-color mana fixing, explosive mass card-draw spells, high-value free-cast targets, and premier interaction.
-
Early Game (Turns 1–2): Fix 5-color mana using fetch lands, triomes, and fast mana rocks like Chrome Mox and Birds of Paradise.
-
Mid Game (Turns 3–4): Deploy Cecily () and execute mass draw spells like Necropotence or Ad Nauseam to immediately push your hand size past eleven cards.
-
