Converting every discarded card into direct damage against all opponents turns simple hand refills and cleanup steps into immediate, game-ending storm loops. On Moxfield’s high-power Jeskai and cEDH Partner charts, Brallin, Skyshark Rider (paired with Shabraz, the Skyshark) from Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths stands out as a high-velocity combo commander capable of wiping out entire tables in a single resolution chain.
As a 3/3 Human Shaman legend costing four mana (), Brallin deals 1 damage to each opponent and receives a +1/+1 counter whenever you discard a card. By attaching draw-on-damage effects like Curiosity or Ophidian Eye to Brallin, a single card discard triggers a loop: Brallin deals damage, the aura draws a card, and discarding down to hand size (or using discard outlets) repeats the cycle until opponent life totals hit zero.
Here is the strategic operational blueprint of Moxfield’s premier Brallin & Shabraz list, detailing how to fetch curiosity effects, execute infinite discard loops, and defend your win lines.
1. Core Mechanics & Strategic Phases
Succeeding with Brallin requires fast Jeskai mana acceleration, instant-speed tutors, Curiosity aura engine pieces, and free counterspell protection.
-
Early Game (Turns 1–2): Ramp aggressively with fast mana rocks like Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, and Lotus Petal while sculpting your hand with Brainstorm or Ponder.
-
Mid Game (Turns 3–4): Cast Brallin. Use tutors like Enlightened Tutor or Open the Armory to retrieve Curiosity or Ophidian Eye.
-
Late Game (Turns 4+): Attach Curiosity to Brallin and trigger a single discard via Frantic Search, Wheel of Fortune, or moving to your end step with 8+ cards. Loop damage and draw through your deck to win instantly.
2. Moxfield Highlights: Curiosity Loops & Wheel Synergy
The highest-rated community lists on Moxfield optimize Brallin by density-packing Curiosity variants alongside game-resetting Wheel spells.
Curiosity / Ophidian Eye / Tandem Lookout
The core win-condition package. Attaching any of these cards to Brallin creates an infinite damage-and-draw loop the second any card is discarded from your hand.
Wheel of Fortune / Windfall / Timetwister
Mass discard triggers. Casting a Wheel with Brallin on the board discards your hand, triggering seven direct damage pings to all opponents while refilling your grip for further plays.
Silence / Grand Abolisher
Combo protection. Stops opponents from interacting with instant-speed removal or counterspells during your win attempt.
Fierce Guardianship / Deflecting Swat / Flawless Maneuver
Free Jeskai protection suite. Safeguards Brallin on the battlefield without costing open mana while executing your win combo.
