Sifting through half your deck in a single turn cycle by leveraging free untap triggers redefines high-speed Rakdos gameplay. On Moxfield’s competitive and high-power charts, Anje Falkenrath from Commander 2019 stands as one of the fastest glass-cannon commanders in the format, turning every card with Madness into a free cantrip and untap spell.
As a 1/3 Vampire legend with haste costing just three mana (), Anje taps to discard a card and draw a card. Crucially, whenever you discard a card with Madness, Anje untaps instantly. By filling the deck with 30+ Madness cards, Anje aggressively digs through the library at zero mana cost to assemble fast reanimation combos, specifically the classic Worldgorger Dragon loop or Underworld Breach finishes on turns 2 to 3.
Here is the strategic operational blueprint of Moxfield’s premier Anje list, detailing how to abuse Madness filtering, generate infinite mana, and execute turn-two victories.
1. Core Mechanics & Strategic Phases
Succeeding with Anje Falkenrath requires aggressive Mulligan decisions for turn-1 or turn-2 commander casts, rapid deck churning via Madness cycling, and immediate combo assembly.
-
Early Game (Turns 1–2): Play fast mana like Sol Ring, Dark Ritual, or Lotus Petal to land Anje () with haste. Tap Anje immediately to start cycling Madness cards.
-
Mid Game (Turn 2–3): Chain multiple Madness discards back-to-back to untap Anje repeatedly, digging 15 to 30 cards deep in a single turn. Dump combo pieces like Worldgorger Dragon directly into the graveyard.
-
Late Game (Turn 3+): Cast an enchantment reanimation spell (Animate Dead, Dance of the Dead, or Necromancy) targeting Worldgorger Dragon to initiate an infinite mana/ETB loop, finishing the table with Sunscoring Hill, Cut // Ribbons, or Orcish Bowmasters.
2. Moxfield Highlights: Madness Synergy & Combo Loops
The highest-rated community lists on Moxfield optimize Anje by packing ultra-dense Madness packages alongside hyper-efficient tutor and reanimation packages.
Worldgorger Dragon + Animate Dead
The premier Rakdos infinite win condition. Reanimating Worldgorger Dragon exiles all your permanents (including Animate Dead), which causes the Dragon to die and return your lands untapped along with Animate Dead, repeating the loop for infinite mana and card draws via Anje.
Avacyn’s Judgment / Alms of the Vein / Fiery Temper
Free-cycling Madness engine pieces. Even if their actual spells are rarely cast for their alternative costs, their primary role is providing instant untaps for Anje at zero mana overhead.
Underworld Breach / Gamble
Backup storm velocity. With Anje loading your graveyard with discarded Madness cards, Underworld Breach allows you to recast tutors, fast mana, or ritual spells directly from the graveyard.
Pyroblast / Deflecting Swat
Low-cost counter-protection. Holding interaction ensures your commander survives opponent removal attempts and secures your win-step without interruption.
