Exiling your nonland permanents to generate an army of 1/1 Soldier tokens while setting up infinite ETB blink loops creates an unstoppable Azorius engine. On Moxfield’s high-power and cEDH charts, pairing Abdel Adrian, Gorion’s Ward with Candlekeep Sage stands as one of the most explosive infinite-combo architectures in the Commander format.
As a 4/4 Human Warrior legend costing five mana (), Abdel Adrian features a game-ending ETB trigger: when he enters the battlefield, you may exile any number of other nonland permanents you control until he leaves the battlefield, creating a 1/1 white Soldier token for each permanent exiled. Paired with the blue Background Candlekeep Sage (which draws a card whenever your commander enters or leaves the battlefield), single instant-speed blink effects convert into massive mana generation, infinite token armies, and full-deck draws.
Here is the strategic operational blueprint of Moxfield’s premier Abdel Adrian list, detailing how to turn exile triggers into instant infinite victory loops.
1. Core Mechanics & Strategic Phases
Succeeding with Abdel Adrian requires low-cost fast mana rocks, ETB value creatures, instant-speed blink spells, and infinite loop enablers.
-
Early Game (Turns 1–2): Drop low-cost mana rocks like Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, and ETB value permanents like Spirited Companion or Mulldrifter.
-
Mid Game (Turns 3–4): Deploy Candlekeep Sage followed by Abdel Adrian (), exiling your mana rocks and creatures to spawn Soldier tokens and draw cards immediately.
-
Late Game (Turns 5+): Execute infinite blink loops using Felidar Guardian, Displace, or Ghostly Flicker, generating infinite 1/1 Soldiers, infinite mana, and drawing your deck to win via Thassa’s Oracle.
2. Moxfield Highlights: Azorius Flicker Engines
The highest-rated community lists on Moxfield optimize Abdel Adrian by stacking instant-speed blink spells and creatures that loop exile triggers endlessly.
Candlekeep Sage
The ideal Blue Background. Giving Abdel the trigger to draw a card whenever he enters OR leaves the battlefield turns every blink spell into a double card-draw engine that draws into your combo pieces.
Felidar Guardian / Restoration Angel
Creature blink loop enablers. Felidar Guardian entering the battlefield blinks Abdel Adrian, which returns Felidar Guardian and your mana rocks to the field, creating infinite Soldier tokens and infinite mana.
Displace / Ghostly Flicker + Archaeomancer
Instant-speed infinite spell loops. Targeting Abdel Adrian and Archaeomancer with Ghostly Flicker returns the spell to your hand while triggering Abdel to spawn tokens and reset all your mana rocks.
Fierce Guardianship / Force of Will
Azorius protection suite. Holding free counter-magic while drawing through your library ensures your infinite blink combo resolves without disruption.
